OSAKA, Japan — Ian Anderson made his first official appearance Aug. 30 for the USA Baseball 18U national team, and made a major contribution in a 5-1 win against Mexico in the 2015 WBSC U-18 World Cup.
Anderson, a senior at Shenendehowa from Rexford, pitched the final 3 1/3 innings of the game and recorded five strikeouts. He was credited with the save.
Anderson came into the game with the bases loaded and Team USA holding a 3-0 lead. He hit his first batter to force in a run, but then got out of the jam.
Anderson had little problem the rest of the way, allowing only one hit.
The World Cup continues through the first week of September.
